Modern Monks Smoked Bock is an inspired version of a traditional German Maibock. As the winter drew to a close and brewers anticipated the coming of spring a strong pale lager was produced. Maibock, so named for the month of May was drank in celebration of spring. Our smoked version uses a healthy portion of German Rauch or smoked malt resulting in an assertive but very drinkable beer. Look for the re-birth of Maibock in the spring. ****Update(June 27, 2008)****7BBL of this beer were brewed on top of the Black Gold yeast, and it has been happily lagering in the fermenter for some time now. Likely release is autumn 2008.
